Christmas is a time for family, fun, laughter and love, but for some it can be the most difficult time of the year. How can you even begin to feel festive when the person you loved so very much is no longer here? Here's how you can make the coming weeks a little easier for yourself and your family.

Be honest - Talk to your family and decide how you want to spend Christmas. Involving everyone in a chat about how you want Christmas to be allows everyone to understand how others are feeling and find a solution that is right for everyone.

Old vs New – Trying to decide whether to keep to old Christmas traditions, or to develop new ones, can be a tricky decision to make. Whilst old traditions may be difficult without your loved one, it can be a nice way to remember the person who has died. Equally, developing new traditions, whilst still remembering your loved one, can be a great way to celebrate. Only you know what is right for you.

Take time to remember – Whether it's visiting their favourite place, watching their favourite film or pulling out the photo albums, taking time to remember your loved one over Christmas can be a great way to feel like they are still part of the celebrations. It's okay to laugh and cry whilst sharing special memories of your loved one.

It's okay to say no – At this time of year there can be lots of pressure to go out and socialise with friends and family. This might seem overwhelming so remember that it's okay to say no; Those who love and care for you will understand.

Finally, remember that it's okay to have fun – You might feel guilty for enjoying the festivities, but it's okay to laugh and have fun! Do whatever feels right for you and your family and relax into the celebrations as much as possible.
